Just like any other lines of trains in Japan, there are countless variations on commuter trains.

The Tokyo Metro 01 series was first introduced in 1985 and is still running today. This one is just for the Ginza line, the oldest Subway line in Tokyo. This line was first completed in 1927. They began construction in 1925.

I have visited the Ginza line, and was very impressed with how original everything is. Most of the structure of the tunnels is original from the 1920's. They have refurbished Asakusa station so it would look they way it did when it was new in 1927. Asakusa is the old downtown of Tokyo. In the past, it was the lively part of town in the same way that Shibuya is now the lively section.

Tokyo Metro has subway lines that date way back to 1927. But the organization was named Tokyo Metro back in 1941.

The Marunouchi Line was first opened in 1956. It has trains with a simple red stripe running across them.

The Hibiya line was opened in 1962. It has simple gray colored trains.

Tōkyō Metro 10000 series is one of the newest designs as it was first introduced in 2006. It has a pleasing "rounded" type design theme. I was quite shocked when I first saw one on the Yurakucho line in Tokyo.

Here is a 10000 series in the flesh. Notice the nice "rounded" look.

Here is a very old subway like train from Japan.
